Nothing can ruin an otherwise perfect day on the slopes faster than being underdressed or lacking the proper equipment. You’ll find an excellent selection of skis, snowboards, boots, ski poles, and helmets in our rental shop! Whether you rent from us or bring your own equipment, be sure to pack the following:

  • Long underwear
  • Light fleece or wool top
  • Ski or snowboard socks
  • Ski or snowboard jacket
  • Ski or snowboard pants (or bibs)
  • Gloves or mittens
  • Helmet
  • Properly fitted boots
  • Goggles
  • Neck gaiter or scarf
  • Wrist guards for snowboarders
  • Sunscreen
Safety Tips

Common injuries for skiers and snowboarders include bruises, sprains, and broken bones. Studies have found the highest rate of injury is among young, inexperienced snowboarders. If you or a member of your group is a beginner, be sure to sign up for lessons with one of our experts! By learning from an experienced teacher and following our safety tips below, you can prevent injuries and enjoy a fun day on the mountains.

  • Always wear a helmet designed for skiing or snowboarding.
  • Make sure your boots fit properly (we have some tips here) and bindings are adjusted correctly. Your boots should feel tight, but not so tight they cut off circulation or cause pressure points.
  • Prepare for the weather by wearing layers of moisture-wicking clothing, a ski or snowboard jacket, snow pants, a hat, and water-resistant gloves.
  • Protect your face! Apply sunscreen and wear goggles that fit properly with a helmet on.
  • Follow all trail rules, and stay on the designated trails. Click here for the trail map.
  • Only go on trails or runs that match your skill level.
  • Take a lesson before hitting the slopes. Even experienced skiers and snowboarders can benefit from a refresher!
  • Ski lifts and tow ropes can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. Make sure you know how to get on, ride, and get off safely. Ask a Whitecap employee if you need help! We cover this in our ski and snowboard lessons, as well.

Whitecap Mountains Resort gets an average of 200 inches of snow a year, which ensures our 400 resort acres are covered. With a summit of 1,750 feet, skiers and snowboarders can experience a 400-foot vertical drop into our Austrian-style ski village.
