Recycle, Reuse, Rebuild
Don O'dell (left), director of mountain operations, and David Dziuban (right), owner, discuss progress made in the demolition of their base lodge.
Check out this article written by P.J. Glisson from the Daily Globe in Ironwood! This article features information on the demolition process, as well as some details on what to expect in the future.
To summarize the article, we have demolished approximately 50% of the burnt base lodge. The process is slow because we are working to limit the amount of garbage that enters landfills. As you can see in the picture above, there is a large pile of cement rubble located to the left of Don. The cement rubble is going to be reused in reconstruction, and multiple other objects/materials will be used as decorative elements within the new lodge!
As for the immediate future, skiers can expect a fully functional ski resort this winter (minus the base lodge-it's a long process). Skiers will once again be able to rent equipment and attend ski school. In the long-term future, you can expect a base village rather than a base lodge, a new hotel, and condos!
